PM LEE OPENS $1.6B WAFER FACTORY  (2008/06/20):   A new, US$1 billion wafer plant has been officially opened by the Prime Minister, creating 800 new jobs ranging from engineers to machine operators.

The new plant in Tampines is a 50-50 joint venture between Samsung Electronics and Siltronic, which is a unit of Germany's Wacker Chemie.
